Deep Conversion Project, Port Arthur, Texas

Services: Quantity Surveyor

Period: December 2008 - November 2009

Client: Total Petrochemical (USA) Inc

Project:

The Deep Conversion Project (DCP) was announced on February 12, 2008. The $2.2 billion project is scheduled for commissioning in 2011 and will log more than 7 million work hours upon completion.

Capacity

The project will build a 50,000 barrel-per-day coker, which will increase the facility’s deep-conversion capacity and expand its ability to process heavy and sour crude oil. It will add 3 million tons per year of ultra low sulfur automotive diesel to the refinery’s current production, raising total output of all products combined to around 12 millions tons per year.

The core project involves the construction of the following units:

  • A Coker (deep conversion unit)
  • A Vacuum Distillation Unit which prepares the coker feed
  • Distillate Hydrotreater - DHT3
  • Coker Naphtha Hydrotreater
  • Hydrogen Purification - PSA
  • Sulfur Recovery Unit
  • In addition to the units, the power supply of the refinery will be modernized byconnecting the new entity to the 230kV network.
